英语写作作为对英语能力考核的一部分,在英语测试中占据着相当重要的地位。英语写作主要考查听说读写四项能力中“写”的能力,考查学生使用英语,进行书面传达和交流的能力。英语写作对学生的英语能力要求较高,它要求学生具备一定的词汇量,同时能够在一定的语境中恰当地使用词汇;能够根据英语语法规则正确和恰当地组织句子,完成写作意图;能够根据写作的要求,进行谋篇布局,使文章连贯、通顺;最后,还要求学生在语言的准确和结构的合理之外,写的灵活、地道、精彩、生动。此外,高考英语作文所占比重较大,分值达到25分,成为影响学生英语成绩的一项重要指标。但在教学中,教师和学生对英语写作的重视程度仍然不够,许多教师和学生采取的态度是充分认识客观题的重要性并加强训练,对写作则是一带而过,缺乏合理的训练,因此造成考试中作文出现多种问题,失分严重。
一、高考英语写作中存在的问题
1.词汇方面。词汇方面的问题首先表现在词汇量不足,不能充分传情达意,不能清晰描写所需。部分学生词汇量非常有限,即使是课内的单词也没有完全掌握,通常不积累单词,因此不论是阅读还是写作,词汇都成为障碍;还有一些学生,他们在阅读中见到部分单词能够识别,但在写作中绝对不会想到使用这些单词,只凭借有限的熟悉的单词进行写作。词汇方面的另一个问题是拼写错误。拼写错误源于不了解英语的发音和拼写规则,对英语单词不够熟悉,练习较少,训练不足。词汇方面另一个突出的问题是不分词性,随意使用。
2.语法方面。在高考作文中,学生的语法意识淡漠,在写作中常常出现动词的时态、语态混淆,名词不分单复数,各种固定句式乱用,句子结构残缺不全等现象。

二、应对措施
1.词汇方面。学习成绩的提高总是依赖于教学双方,教师要采取积极有效的教学措施,学生也要积极采用一些学习策略,端正学习态度,付出努力。进行词汇教学时,教师要根据教学大纲的要求指出学生需要掌握的重点单词,并传授给学生词汇学习策略。教师可以利用构词法的知识,帮助学生构建词汇网络。着重讲解那些常见的固定搭配、使用形式,使学生见到就能够识别。教师可以采用一些游戏的方式引导学生,调动学生学习词汇的积极性。教师还要监督学生记忆单词,坚持不懈,不断积累。
2.语法方面。这里我们要强调一点,语法教学和学习并不意味着背诵大量的语法规则,更重要的是使学生掌握语言的形式和意义,掌握形式和意义的关系,赋予语法以交际意义,使学生明确语法的实际用途。教师应尽量将语法教学置于情景教学中,通过多种教学活动来促进语法规则的掌握。此外,语法规则的掌握有赖于加深理解,而不是记住规则。

4.克服母语迁移的负面影响。(1)加大英语阅读量。扩大语言输入是根本的办法。中国学生的英语作文留有明显的汉语干扰的痕迹,最主要的原因是英语阅读量不足。学生在写作时头脑中缺乏恰当的模板,所以只好使用自己熟悉的母语模板进行英语写作,因此在学习英语的过程中要加强英语的输入量。(2)培养学生的英语思维能力。在英语写作中,教师要加强引导学生在词层、句层、篇章层进行思维转换,使学生认识英语和汉语在思维方式上的差异,自觉摆脱汉语思维的干扰,按英语思维习惯进行英文写作。

早在2004年公布的《高中英语新课》标中就已明确指出“培养初步写作的能力是英语教学的目的之一”。可以说书面表达最能检验出学生综合运用英语语言能力的高低。新课程标准从写作本身和学生的特点出发,把高中英语写作定义为真正意义上的作文。这主要体现在以下几个方面。
1)个性化:能就国内外关心的问题用英语表达自己的观点和态度;
2)注重内容:力求使表达内容有趣,注重交流,学会根据读者对象写作;
3)交际化:遵循英语国家的文化习俗和交际准则;
4)表达形式多样:能运用多种句子结构、变化的词、语体及文体等;
5)强调学生自身责任:材料的收集、整理和加工,拟草稿、讨论、修改等。
从新课程标准对写作的具体要求中,不难看出它加大了形成性评价的力度,强调了写作能力的培养过程。而在新课标的指引下进行英语书面表达的教学活动不能一蹴而就,必须循序渐进,抓住规律,掌握方法,才能够事半功倍。
通过对日常教学中收集的写作练习样本进行定量的错误分析,我发现,母语负迁移(negative transfer of the mother tongue)是影响学生英语写作能力提高的主要因素,学习者的外语程度越低,受母语干扰(mother language interference)的程度越深。大量的写作错误来源于学生忽视英、汉语的区别,汉语的负迁移导致各种各样的“中式英语” (Chinglish)。这种负迁移对英语写作的影响主要表现在词汇、语法、语篇、语用等几个方面。
一、母语负迁移
(一)词汇负迁移
1.词义方面:在不同语言中,词的概念意义(或外延意义)是不相同的。如:“厨师”和“cooker”一词概念意义不同,有的学生误用导致写作时出现错误。另外,一个单词在另外一种语言中可以找到几种不同的意义,因为它们的语义场不吻合,呈重叠、交错、空缺等形式。如:汉语的“重”在英语的对应单词是“heavy”,“重盒子”可以说“heavy box”,还可以说“heavy rain”(大雨)、“heavy traffic”(繁忙的交通)等。而有的学生按照字面去套,于是就出现了“big rain”、“busy traffic”等负迁移。
2.词性方面:一般来说,汉语是一种多动词的语言,而英语更多用介词和名词。很多学生不善于运用英语介词短语代替汉语的谓语加宾语的功用,句子中动宾结构太多。如:He looked at me and felt surprised.把and felt surprised改为in surprise更符合英语的表达习惯。另外,词性的转换在英汉两种语言中也是非常普遍的,但学生经常忽视这一点。如:“珍贵的”(is of great value),但部分学生仍习惯用形容词“valuable”。
3.词汇搭配方面:每一种语言在词与词的搭配上都有一些特有的方式和习惯。如,一些表示颜色的形容词的搭配意义在英汉语中是无法对应的,像“白发”(gray hair)、“红糖”(brown sugar)等。
(二)语法负迁移
1.在语序上:在汉语中,其定语作用的短语或从句常常前置,而在英语中却后置。如:“坐在后面的学生”(the students seated on the back)。
2.在时间意义的表达上:英语时态丰富,区分细微,习惯性强。传递同样的意思,英语只要选用合适的时态就可以了,汉语则必须使用词汇手段。中国学生常受汉语语法习惯的影响而产生错误。如:I want to buy the expensive dictionary, but I couldn’t afford it.很明显,应将“want”改为“wanted”,才能保持前后时态的一致。
3.在连词的使用上:“因为……所以”“虽然……但是”等这类连词是汉语的结构,英语却不存在这样连词并用的情况。由于受汉语的影响,中国学生较容易产生负迁移现象用了“because”之后,还用“so”。
(三)语篇负迁移
英语以“形合”为主,正式表达多用复句、长句;汉语以“意合”为主,喜用单句短句,有气势的排比句更是佳句。“形合”是指在有多层主谓关系时,英语一定要借助连词、连接性副词或非谓语动词这样的语言形式来帮助实现句子的连接;“意合”是指汉语只从句子本身逻辑意思考虑,就可以把复杂关系表达清楚,没必要总依靠连词。属于印欧语系的英语是拼音文字,语序灵活,要靠严密的语法结构来保证其句意的紧凑。
二、对策
(一)提高英语教师的语用意识
英语教师担负着课堂教学的任务,其语用意识的强弱直接关系着培养学生语用能力的成败。教师平常应该坚持多看英语原著,无论是课堂用语还是批改学生的作文,用词力求准确地道。另外,教师应用对比语言学的理论知识,加强英汉对比,让学生了解汉语负迁移的存在。在写作训练中要适当地讲解易导致负迁移的内容,帮助学生循序渐进地改正由汉语的负迁移产生的各种错误。
(二)多积累,打好语言基础
一是背诵。背诵是提高写作的有效途径。要学好写作文,首先要处理好语言输入与输出之间的关系。前者是后者的前提条件。只有读过大量东西,并且有意识地将其中精彩部分储存于记忆之中,才能保证下笔流畅、文通字顺。因此,背诵对于写作极为重要。但背诵不是机械记忆,而是有选择性地背诵,是有意义的记忆。二是模仿训练。在仿照范文写作中,学用语言、章法和表达技巧的一种方法。仿写既可以是局部的、片段的,也可以是整体的。从内容上看,词汇、句型、段落、篇章及选材、布局、修辞和照应等都可以仿写。
(三)培养学生英汉文化差异的敏感性
首先,要向学生讲解西方文化特别是英美文化中的社会习俗、历史背景等知识,避免或减少写作中的文化错误。另外,要经常向学生讲授英语行文的特点,了解英文的写作习惯和表达方式,分析英汉因文化引起的不同之处,让学生认识到两种语言的不同表达,以提高他们的写作能力。还可进行适当的英汉对比,让学生对英语和汉语在思维方式、文化、词汇、遣词造句等宏观、微观上的差异更为清楚,从而在写作实践中能更自觉地避免汉语思维方式及写作经验在英语写作中负迁移。
(四)讲清几种常用文章体裁的格式与写法
现行教材中的课文体裁应有尽有,如记叙文、说明文、应用文(日记、通知、启示、广告)等,它们都是一些指导作用很强的范文。同时在教师的指导下,学生都明确了各种文体的写法。如:看图写话的步骤有:仔细观察;列提纲;连词成句,连句成文,恰当使用过渡语;检查、复核全文,看是否遗漏细节,有无语法错误等。
(五)将写作训练贯穿于教学过程的各个环节

“写”作为四项基本语言技能之一。高中英语写作训练应注重激发学生的写作欲望,保持学生的写作兴趣,发挥学生的写作才能,鼓励学生用英语表达。只有这样,才能取得良好的教学效果。
