新闻的审美属性是由新闻自身的素质决定的。首先,新闻是对自然界和人类社会中客观存在的原生形态的美的直接反映。新闻反映的对象从客观方面看无非是真善美和假恶丑,反映和抨击假恶丑,也就是间接地肯定、颂扬真善美。新闻直接反映真善美、假恶丑,这是新闻的特点和优势之所在。其次,新闻具有具体可感的形象性内容。新闻是客观存在的事物的反映,而客观事物是具体的、实在的,唯其具体实在,方能被人感知,正如人的认识是以感知为基础一样,作为一种特殊认识的美感产生于实践中的具体感知,离开真切的感受无所谓美感,新闻对事实的叙述、描写,使它具有了直观性、形象性、可感性特征,这是美感生成的必要条件。再次,新闻包含着作者的审美判断。新闻是用具体的事实信息来反映客观的社会生活,这是新闻的真实性法则所决定的,但新闻对生活的反映并不是机械地“复制”、冰冷地“克隆”,并不意味着有了事实就有了新闻,只要反映事实的新闻便是好新闻。为什么面对同样的事实会形成种种不同的报道,并且可能产生种种不同甚至相反的社会效果?这是因为新闻传播作为一种主体行为,不可避免地打上了主体性的烙印。所谓主体性,是指传播主体在选择事实、传达信息时自觉或不自觉地流露出的个人意志、情感和认识。同时,新闻作为一种特殊的舆论工具,它要“说话”、要“发言”,即表达特定的观点态度,更何况新闻传播要受政治经济的制约、文化观念的影响。但新闻又是以特殊的方式,即用事实、用形象说话或发言的,“从表面上看,新闻似乎只在客观地叙述事实,实际上在用词造句之间就隐含着某种观点,形式上的含蓄掩盖着内容上的某一立场。”①最后,新闻写作作为一种技巧、艺术,它体现了作者的创造性,无论是新闻采访,还是在立意、构思、表达诸方面,美学理论告诉我们:“人的一切创造在一定程度上都可以作为审美活动来考察”,②“在每个领域中出现的凡是值得被称为艺术性的活动,都必定具有审美意义”。③因此,新闻作为具有创造特征的艺术性活动的产物,同样具有审美意义,会给读者带来美的享受。新闻体现着作者对反映对象的审美理解,同时新闻的特点和表现方式决定了新闻能从审美的角度反映事物,能以直观情感的方式告诉我们真假、善恶、美丑。
新闻美不仅是新闻自身素质的体现,同时也是新闻事业的性质要求使然。新闻事业作为掌握在一定阶级手中的舆论工具,它是用新闻手段来反映现实,为本阶级的利益服务的。新闻要影响人,最大限度地实现自身具有的新闻价值和宣传价值,取得良好的社会效果,必先为广大受众所喜爱、所接受,如果作品干瘪枯燥,味同嚼蜡,势必使读者望而生厌,因此,我国新闻界许多有识之士,特别是新闻作者历来强调要写视觉新闻、立体新闻、现场感强的新闻,要求新闻作品具有可读性、趣味性等,其实质就是要新闻写出具体可感的生动形象,具有沁人心脾的艺术魅力。“所谓立体化,无非是要注意交代新闻背景,有典型情节、细节、感人的画面、精彩的对话,使之有声有色,有血有肉,让人从消息中具体形象地看到事物的本来面貌。”而现实的情况恰恰不能令人满意,“不少消息满篇只有概念化的叙述,枯燥无味的数字,孤立、零碎的新闻事实,给人以平面感。”④这正是长期以来对新闻美认识缺陷而造成的实践上的弊端,它严重制约了新闻作用的正常发挥。审美的意义是深刻而广泛的,它对人的知、情、意、行的影响是长久而深远的,正如苏联著名美学家斯托洛维奇所说:在人类的各项认识和实践活动中,“审美像探照灯一样照耀着前进的道路,使人们能够预见、猜测和热情地预感所要探索和期望的结果,做出对于未来的大胆预测。”⑤新闻审美不仅能给人一种情感的愉悦,更是人们产生积极行为的强烈的内驱力。实践证明,新闻的实用性、功利性不仅不会妨碍它的审美功能的发挥,其审美价值反倒会强化新闻实用功能的实现。
新闻美有其特殊的表现。新闻之美,贵在“真实”。内容的真实是新闻审美的基础。真善美,以真为前提,真是合规律性,善是合目的性,美则是真善的形象显现,不真,不善,也就不美。从人类审美发展史的角度看,实用也先于审美。狄德罗说:“真、善、美是些十分相近的品质。在前面的两种品质之上加以一些难得而出色的情状,真就显得美,善也显得美。”⑥“出色的情状”,就是指生动的形象。人们之所以需要新闻就在于它每时每刻能给我们提供事物发生、变化的最新信息,帮助人们消除认识上的不确定性,以便更好地认识世界、改造世界。同时因为真实便与读者的生活、心理接近,阅读的时候没有距离,不会感到陌生,容易引起心灵的交流与共鸣。新闻之美,重在“新颖”。新闻是一条流动不息的长河,从内容到形式都在不断地刷新着自己,新情况、新事物、新人物、新问题、新成就、新经验……如雨后春笋,层出不穷。唯其新才能令人爱不释手。正如徐治平先生所言:“因为人有一种本能的好奇心,作品之新奇,就能满足读者审美心理的独特要求,从而获得猎奇的;此外,这种对于审美对象的新奇感,可以变为强烈的刺激信息,使读者对作品获得鲜明长久的印象,从而增强作品美的吸引力和感染力。”⑦新闻之美,美在含蓄。新闻“表达的,往往是一种无形的意见。越是高明的新闻工作者,越善于在内容上贯彻自己的意见,也越善于在形式上隐藏自己的意见。它能够使读者(听众和观众)在接受事实的同时也接受作者的观点和意见,所以具有一种特殊的潜移默化的作用,有着巨大的影响力。”⑧新闻通常只是某个或某些“个别”、“具体”事实信息的报道,但它能通过个别反映一般,其以小见大的艺术表现方式决定了它能给读者以暗示,激发读者的联想、想象和情感。
新闻美是新闻的可贵品质,是新闻写作的高层次追求。它不是搜集、罗列、机械地记录一些生活的表面现象就能得到,而应对新闻事实进行审美观照和艺术表现。最重要的是要以审美的眼光捕捉人们普遍关心的、感兴趣的事实,捕捉鲜活的人物、精彩的场景、传神的细节,运用活生生的语言进行生动的叙述和形象的描写,直接展示事物的形象和状态。正如姚里军同志所言:“新闻要尽可能采取某种感性的表达形式,不能依靠那些空洞的词语和概念化的陈述,不能让传播对象去接受你对事物的抽象认识,而必须以审美的直觉捕捉到事物可感的状貌和变化,让读者从一定的描述中获得某种感性的印象。这是新闻作为一种‘时代的艺术’的语言标志,是一个美学标志。”⑨
时代的发展,受众的需要,推动着新闻媒体、新闻写作的变革。新闻以感性具体的形式集中反映着以人为主体的社会生活,体现着人的本质力量,是新闻作者社会情感的物化形态,因而必然具有审美属性、审美价值。新闻美学的核心问题就是在坚持新闻真实性原则的前提下,尽可能用形象说话,提高新闻的艺术表现力,以扩大新闻的审美信息含量,增强新闻的感染力、影响力和战斗力。
