Since its publication in Volume 1, Issue 1 in 1963, it is the only journal in North America dedicated to papyrus and related disciplines. The Bulletin of the American Society of Papyrologists has published numerous articles and reviews related to papyrus and related disciplines. From textual versions to important comprehensive articles, BASP has published research on papyrus, ciliates, and Greek, Latin, and Coptic inscriptions. In the future, BASP will expand its coverage to include Hieratic, Demotic, Aramaic, and Arabic texts. The research fields involved include papyrus, ancient Egyptology, classicism, history, linguistics, and archaeology. The journal also regularly publishes annual reviews on Christian inscriptions in Egypt and Nubia.
